A working guide to harnessing generalized dissimilarity modelling for biodiversity analysis and conservation assessment

چکیده

Aim Generalized dissimilarity modelling (GDM) is a powerful and unique method for characterizing predicting beta diversity, the change in biodiversity over space, time environmental gradients. The number of studies applying GDM expanding, with increasing recognition its value improving our understanding drivers patterns implementing wide variety spatial assessments relevant to conservation. However, apart from original presentation technique, there has been little guidance available users on different situations or key decisions required. Innovation We present an accessible working guide GDM. describe context development GDM, simple statistical explanation how model fitting works, step through considerations involved data preparation, fitting, refinement assessment. then several novel analyses can be implemented using code support broader implementation. conclude by providing overview range GDM-based that have undertaken date identify priority areas future research development. Main conclusions Our vision this will facilitate greater more rigorous use as tool undertaking assessments.

a gis based assessment tool for biodiversity conservation

infrastructure development often leads to considerable changes in the land use. these changes are major causes of habitat fragmentation and ecosystem loss. moreover, decrease of the environmental impacts on biodiversity is among the most important objectives of sustainable development. for this purpose, environmental impact assessment (eia) along with the other appropriate tools can be applied ...

Improving risk assessment for biodiversity conservation.

Preservation of biodiversity is a major ecological challenge to present and future generations (1). Success will largely depend on the optimal allocation of limited funding resources to the most relevant conservation projects. In a recent issue of PNAS, Ando and Mallory (2) proposed to tackle the problem with Modern Portfolio Theory (MPT), originally devised to balance risk and return on invest...

General management principles and a checklist of strategies to guide forest biodiversity conservation

Many indicators and criteria have been proposed to assess the sustainable management of forests but their scientific validity remains uncertain. Because the effects of forest disturbances (such as logging) are often specific to particular species, sites, landscapes, regions and forest types, management ‘‘shortcuts’’ such as indicator species, focal species and threshold levels of vegetation cov...

uncertainty in the financial market will be driven by underlying brownian motions, while the assets are assumed to be general stochastic processes adapted to the filtration of the brownian motions. the goal of this study is to calculate the accumulated wealth in order to optimize the expected terminal value using a suitable utility function. this thesis introduced the lim-wong’s benchmark fun...
